Building Surveyor - Education Projects

Home based with regional travel across Worcestershire and neighbouring counties
Full-time, permanent, flexible working
£30,000 to £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
We have been retained by our client, a friendly, growing consultancy that partners with primary, secondary and academy schools to improve and extend their buildings.

Working closely with senior surveyors, you will help deliver safe, modern and energy efficient learning spaces that genuinely make a difference.
The opportunity:

This Building Surveyor position is ideal for someone looking to step up from assistant or intermediate level into a role with more project ownership and client contact.  You will support and gradually lead projects such as internal refurbishments, roofs, windows, accessibility improvements and small extensions in live school environments.

You will split your time between home-based report work, site visits across the region and meetings at the Worcester office when required.  Training, mentoring and support towards professional qualification (MCIOB, MCIAT or MRICS) will be provided.

What you will be doing:
  • Assisting with and increasingly leading building surveys, condition surveys and defect diagnosis for school buildings.
  • Preparing and updating drawings, specifications, schedules of work and tender packs under the guidance of senior colleagues.
  • Supporting contract administration, site inspections and progress meetings with contractors and school clients.
  • Helping to manage project budgets, programmes and quality, ensuring works are delivered safely and with minimal disruption to teaching.
  • Maintaining accurate project records and contributing to funding and bid documentation where required.
  • Building positive relationships with school leaders, site managers and external consultants.
What you will bring:
  • Degree or equivalent in Building Surveying or a related construction discipline, or strong relevant experience.
  • Experience in building surveying, maintenance, capital works or similar, ideally including occupied buildings.
  • Interest in developing expertise in building pathology, regulations and compliance in the education sector.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work with a range of stakeholders.
  • Organised, proactive approach with the ability to manage your own workload with support from senior surveyors.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the region, plus eligibility for an enhanced DBS check.
What is on offer:
  • Competitive salary with clear progression routes and support towards chartership (MCIOB, MCIAT or MRICS).
  • 30 days’ annual leave (pro rata for part time) plus bank holidays.
  • Pension contribution, paid professional memberships and access to a health scheme.
  • Flexible, family friendly working arrangements and a genuinely supportive team culture.
  • Exposure to a broad range of education projects that will accelerate your technical and professional development.
